Book Worm Angels, (BWA) a not-for-profit group that promotes recreational reading for students, held a fundraiser on Nov. 4 to help collect and distribute gently used children’s books for classroom lending libraries.
The event was held at Architectural Artifacts, 4325 North Ravenswood Ave., Chicago. More than 175 guests raised $41,000 to support the mission of BWA founded by successful entrepreneur Kermit W. Myers, who had who served as a volunteer teacher’s aide at Richard Byrd Academy in Chicago’s Cabrini Green neighborhood.
Since 1999, Book Worm Angels has collected and distributed 2 million gently used books to classroom lending libraries in elementary schools in impoverished neighborhoods, the second million during the last three years.
Christine Seidman and Elena DeWolfe co-chaired Story Time 2011—a western-thpemed fundraiser for Book Worm Angels.
