Authorities say alcohol may have played a role in a rollover crash that injured two people, one critically, Sunday night in north suburban Highland Park.

Emergency officials responded at 8:06 p.m. to a single-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of Skokie Valley Road (U.S. 41) just south of the Deerfield Road overpass, Highland Park police Cmdr. George Pfutzenreuter said in a statement.

The driver and front-seat passenger were taken to Highland Park Hospital, but the passenger was later transferred to Evanston Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Both remain hospitalized. Pfutzenreuter said he expected the driver to be released Monday and police plan to interview him.

Skokie Valley Road was closed for two hours for investigation and debris removal.
