Highland Park police blotter for July 30 - Aug. 5, 2012

The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Highland Park Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.

BURGLARY

A light blue Fuji road bike and a white mountain bike were stolen from a rear detached garage between Aug. 1 and 3 on the 900 block of Park Avenue West. According to the police report, no signs of forced entry were noted, but the light bulbs around garage were found removed from their sockets.

Three Comcast receivers, three knives, a black flashlight and a black compact disc case containing about 20 CD’s were taken from an unlocked vehicle between July 31 and Aug. 1 while the vehicle was parked in the driveway of a residence on the 900 block of Auburn Avenue.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Police investigated a report of criminal damage to property Aug. 3 after it was reported a vehicle was apparently struck by BB pellets while driving near Sheridan Road and Elm Place. According to the police report, two small holes were observed in the upper right corner of the windshield.

The drivers side front window of a vehicle was smashed between July 28 and July 30 while it was parked on the 2300 block of Skokie Valley Road. According to the police report, multiple pry marks were found indented in the window sill and frame. A black lug nut also was seen on the passenger side front-wheel bolt, which did not appear to belong to the vehicle.

DRUGS

William Basurto, 21, of the 1100 block of Muirfield Avenue, Waukegan, was arrested at 3:12 a.m. Aug. 6 on the 400 block of Skokie Valley Road and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the police report, Basurto was a passenger in a car that was pulled over. Basurto was released on his own recognizance with a court date of Aug. 27 at 18 N. County St., Waukegan.

Jeffrey Lantz, 58, of the 6000 block of Lake Drive, Lisle, was issued an administrative citation ticket at 7:56 p.m. Aug. 3 for alleged possession of marijuana after being observed by police smoking while attending a Ravinia Festival concert. Lantz is expected in administrative court on Sept. 20 at City Hall, 1707 St. Johns Ave., Highland Park.

Elena Rojas, 20, of the 1800 block of Sunnyside Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested at 1:12 p.m. Aug. 1 on the first block of Ravine Drive and charged with possession of marijuana. Rojas was released on her own recognizance with a court date of Sept. 12 at 301 S. Greenleaf Ave., Park City.

Benjamin Schenk, 19, of the first block of Wainwright Street, Highland Park, was arrested at 1:51 a.m. Aug. 1 on the 800 block Auburn Court and charged with possession of marijuana, underage consumption of alcohol, burglary to a vehicle and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. According to the police report, Schenk was arrested after police responded to a report of three suspicious individuals -- two later found to be juveniles -- walking in the area carrying pillowcases. Schenk was transported to bond court at 18 N. County St., Waukegan, pending a future court date.

THEFT

Police investigated a report of theft Aug. 4 in which an iPhone and wallet containing credit cards, cash and identification were stolen from an unsecured and unattended backpack left near a basketball court on the 100 block of Skokie Valley Road.

An unlocked red-and-white bicycle was stolen from a bicycle rack around 3 p.m. Aug. 4 on the 1800 block of Green Bay Road.

An orange-and-black Magna Rip Claw bicycle was stolen from a back yard between Aug. 1 and 3 on the 2500 block of Trillium Lane.

A car jack was used to lift a vehicle to steal its four wheels between 9 p.m. July 30 and 6 a.m. July 31 while it was parked on the 400 block of Skokie Valley Road. According to the police report, a tool also was used to damage and partially remove body panels and badges from two other vehicles in the lot.

Four tires and rims were stolen from an inoperable 1995 Honda between July 28 and July 30 while it was parked on the 100 block of Skokie Valley Road.

DUI

Lynn Peters, 40, of the 1200 block of North Clybourn Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 12:38 a.m. Aug. 5 on the 1700 block of St. Johns Avenue and charged with driving under the influence. She also was cited for allegedly driving on an expired registration and driving the wrong way. Peters was released on a cash bond with a court date of Sept. 7 at 18 N. County St., Waukegan.

Jonathan Perez, 29, of the 4300 block of West Shakespeare Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 3:52 a.m. Aug. 2 on the 1900 block of Skokie Valley Road and charged with driving under the influence. He also was cited for allegedly driving an uninsured vehicle, illegal lane use, headlights out and expired registration. Perez was released on his own recognizance with a court date of Aug. 31 at 18 N. County St., Waukegan.

Robert Schaul, 67, of the 1300 block of Sheridan Road, Highland Park, was arrested at 10:01 p.m. Aug. 1 at Sheridan Road and Linden Avenue and charged with driving under the influence. He also was cited for allegedly not having his rear license plate illuminated. Schaul was released on a cash bond with a court date of Aug. 17 at 18 N. County St., Waukegan.

TRAFFIC

Hector Guerra, 21, of the first block of South Main Street, Northfield, was arrested at 8:51 a.m. Aug. 3 on the 200 block of Skokie Valley Road and charged with driving on a revoked license. He also was cited for alleged illegal backing. Guerra was released on his own recognizance with a court date of Sept. 12 at 301 S. Greenleaf Ave., Park City.

Anton Grant, 33, of the 7600 block of South East End Street, Chicago, was arrested at 1:05 a.m. Aug. 3 on the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road and charged with driving on a suspended license. He also was cited for allegedly speeding. Grant was released on his own recognizance with a court date of Sept. 12 at 301 S. Greenleaf Ave., Park City.

Beatriz Martinez-Torres, 25, of the 500 block of Bank Lane, Highwood, was arrested at 12:43 a.m. July 31 on the 2500 block of Skokie Valley Road and charged with driving on a suspended license. Martinez-Torres was released on a cash bond with a court date of Sept. 12 at 301 S. Greenleaf Ave., Park City.
