Highland Park blotter for week of Sept. 10

The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Highland Park police department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.

BURGLARY

A vanity table with a granite countertop appears to have been stolen from a vacant residence on the 2200 block of Sheridan Road some time between 10:30 a.m. Aug. 29 and 7 p.m. Sept. 4. A rear door was pried upon during the burglary. The vanity table was in an upstairs master bedroom.

CAR BURGLARY

A purse was stolen Saturday, Sept. 8, from a car on the 700 block of Park Avenue West by someone who smashed a driver’s side, front window to gain entry. The purse contained a driver’s license, credit cards and gift cards.

Police received a report Sunday, Sept. 9, that electronic equipment was stolen from an unused vehicle on the 900 block of Central Avenue some time within the past 30 days. The missing items included two portable DVD players, an amplifier and a subwoofer. The sliding door on the vehicle was not locked.

CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

Three men were charged Friday, Sept. 7, with illegal possession of a prescription pad and unlawful acquisition of a controlled substance after police responded to a report of suspicious activity on the 1500 block of Clavey Road.

The three are Jamie Chapman, 19, of the 3700 block of 79th St., Chicago; Darius Ballinger, 21, of the 9300 block of South Union, Chicago; and Kendall Donaldson, 22, of the 200 block of South McKinley, Harrisburg.

Chapman also was charged with possession of marijuana. Ballinger, who was driving the vehicle, was charged with driving while license suspended. The three were transported to bond court in Waukegan.

DUI

A 60-year-old Highland Park man was charged with driving under the influence following a stop by police Thursday, Sept. 6, on the 400 block of Skokie Valley Road. Scott Lerman, of the 2700 block of Arlington Avenue, also was charged with speeding and improper lane use. His court date is Sept. 28.

A 23-year-old Waukegan woman was charged with driving under the influence and other violations following a stop Thursday, Sept. 6, on the 1900 block of Skokie Valley Road. Laticia Dixon, of the 500 block of Caroline Place is due in court Sept. 28.

THEFT

Catalytic converters were removed from a dozen work vehicles parked on the 2900 and 3100 blocks of Skokie Valley Road over the Labor Day weekend. The offender appeared to have used a reciprocating saw to remove the converters from 12 vehicles, including five trucks, six vans and a pasenger vehicle.

BATTERY

A Deerfield man was charged with battery Sept. 4 after police responded to a reported dispute on the 1900 block of Sheridan Road. Henry Waldman, 62, is to appear in court Sept. 26.
