HIGHLAND PARK — Voters in the Park District of Highland Park will face a choice of three candidates for two open seats on the five-member Board of Commissioners in the April 9 election.
Incumbent Cal Bernstein, a Highland Park attorney and park commissioner since 2007, is seeking a second six-year term.
Two other candidates also have filed for the office. They are Barnett Ruttenberg, an attorney who served on the Rosewood Beach Task Force and formerly chaired the Highland Park Plan Commission, and David Sogin, a retired biochemist who is commodore for the North Shore Yacht Club.
Bernstein current chairs the park board’s finance committee and the advisory committees that provide input related to Sunset Valley Golf Course and the Deer Creek Tennis Courts. He also co-chairs the athletics and recreation advisory committees and serves on the Intergovernmental Task Force that considers issues of common concern to the park district, the city and school districts.
