Lake County’s 19th Judicial Circuit received approval Thursday to allow cameras in courtrooms from the Illinois Supreme Court.
The order is effective immediately, according to the Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas McBride.
Lake County is the ninth circuit in the state to participate in the pilot program allowing cameras inside courtrooms. Also approved for the pilot project is the 23rd Judicial Circuit, which includes DeKalb and Kendall counties.
“Our 15 circuit judges have expressed unanimous support for this pilot project,” Lake County Chief Judge Fred Foreman said.
Foreman said court staff welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with news media to develop protocols.
The Supreme Court launched its pilot program to allow cameras in courtrooms a year ago.
