Updated: March 7, 2013 12:22PM

HIGHWOOD — The City of Highwood has announced that its Recreation Center has undergone a transformation, highlighted by two new LED scoreboards, which replaced 40-year-old models.

Officials offered thanks to the Highwood Chamber of Commerce, Carefree Comfort and Viti Financial for generous donations. Highwood Fire Department personnel also volunteered time to install the new flooring to save costs.

The Rec Center has been a community staple since the 1940s, drawing in people from all over the North Shore for youth and adult community programs. With the revitalized infrastructure, the Rec Center is now able to expand program offerings to outside organizations looking for a facility.

The Rec Center offers a variety of classes for children and adults as well as a new performing arts program. The Performer’s School brings theatrical workshops, classes and auditions to the community.
