Winter’s first snowstorm arrived just in time last week to provide a fresh surface of powder for Saturday’s Park District of Highland Park annual Winter Fest.
If snow hadn’t fallen, the Park District had planned to offer guests use of its gymnastics gym and ice skating rink inside the Centennial Ice Arena.
With snow on the ground, Winter Fest expanded outside featuring sledding, cross-country skiing and horse-drawn carriage rides.
Other activities Saturday included curling, hockey and speed skating lessons, arts and crafts and cookie decorating.
