Highland Park police blotter for Aug. 6 - Aug. 13, 2012

The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Highland Park Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.

BATTERY

Gerald Watson Jr., 21, of the 3800 block of West End Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 5:32 p.m. Aug. 9 and charged with battery. According to the police report, officers made the arrest after investigating a complaint Aug. 5 from a woman who alleged that Watson touched her inappropriately. Watson was released on a cash bond with a court date of Sept. 12 at 18 N. County St., Waukegan.

BURGLARY

Two unlocked vehicles were entered and rummaged through between 1:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Aug. 11 while the cars were parked in driveways on the 1100 block of Taylor Avenue. Nothing was reported taken, however.

Police investigated a report of a burglary from a vehicle Aug. 10 after a brown leather bi-fold wallet containing cash and credit cards was stolen from the glove box of an unsecured convertible parked in the driveway of a home on the 100 block of Maple Avenue.

Police investigated a report of a residential burglary Aug. 8 in which a man was confronted after entering a second-floor apartment through an unlocked back door on the 1600 block of McGovern Avenue. According to the police report, the homeowner yelled at the intruder, who then ran back down the stairs and into a tan or silver Jeep. No items were reported taken.

Jewelry was stolen from a home between 9:15 a.m. and noon Aug. 7 on the 200 block of Prospect Avenue. According to the police report, a burglar entered the home through an unsecured front or side door and took several pieces of jewelry from a jewelry box and dresser drawer in the master bedroom.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A vehicle’s side panel was scratched with a key between 7:10 a.m. and 5:40 p.m. Aug. 6 while parked on the first block of St. Johns Avenue.

DRUGS

Kathleen Croke, 42, of the 700 block of Concorde Lane, Barrington; and Kimberly Wood, 43, of the 6000 block of Brick Church, Walworth, Wis., were issued citations for alleged possession of marijuana at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 11 in a Ravinia Festival parking. According to the police report, officers saw them smoking in the west parking lot. Croke and Wood are expected in administrative court Sept. 6 at City Hall, 1707 St. Johns Ave., Highland Park.

Neiman Riley, 21, of the 2000 block of Honore Avenue, North Chicago, was arrested at 1:40 p.m. Aug. 11 on the 600 block of Roger Williams Avenue and charged with unlawful acquisition of a controlled substance. According to the police report, Riley allegedly took about 10 bottles of hydrocodone while employed at the business between April and August of this year. Riley was transported to bond court at 18 N. County St., Waukegan.

IDENTITY THEFT

Steven Brody, 52, of the 1400 block of Arbor Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested at 11 p.m. Aug. 9 and charged with identity theft and unlawful use of a credit card after turning himself in on a warrant. Brody was released on a cash bond with a court date of Aug. 28 at 18 N. County St., Waukegan.

THEFT

About $33 in gasoline was stolen Aug. 13 from a service station on the 1300 block of Skokie Valley Road. According to the police report, the credit card was denied; then the subject took the card and drove off without paying.

Police investigated a report of theft Aug. 10 after a debit card was found to have been unlawfully swiped by an unknown person at a business on the 100 block of Skokie Valley Road. According to the report, the card was used to buy four bottles of champagne.

A brown SE Racing “Ripper” BMX bicycle with bright green handles and a multicolor chain was stolen between 4:30 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. Aug. 6 from the 400 block of Laurel Avenue. According to the police report, the bicycle was left unsecured in a bike rack.

DUI

Jorge Nieves, 34, of the 26000 block of West Lakeview Avenue, Ingleside, was arrested at 6:46 a.m. Aug. 9 on the 800 block of Broadview Avenue and charged with driving under the influence and possession of marijuana. He also was cited with driving under the influence while on a revoked license for a previous DUI. According to the police report, officers made the arrest after responding to a complaint of an unknown subject parked in a driveway asleep at the wheel. Nieves was transported to bond court at 18 N. County St., Waukegan, pending a future court date.

Casey Burke, 22, of the 2300 block of Gilboa Avenue, Zion, was arrested at 1:28 a.m. Aug. 9 on the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road and charged with driving under the influence. Burke also was cited with speeding. Burke was released on his or her own recognizance with a court date of Sept. 14 at 18 N. County St., Waukegan.

Ryszard Binias, 64, of the 5300 block of W. Fletcher, Chicago, was arrested at 9:06 p.m. Aug. 6 at Half Day and Highmoor roads and charged with driving under the influence. Binias also was cited with disobeying a traffic-control device. Binias was released on a cash bond with a court date of Aug. 31 at 18 N. County St., Waukegan.
