45-pound stuffed elephant stolen from outside Highland Park shop

HIGHLAND PARK — A five-foot-tall, 45-pound stuffed elephant was stolen July 24 in front of Sprout Kids on the 600 block of Central Avenue during the downtown Highland Park sidewalk sale.

The shop’s proprietor is asking for the public’s help in locating “Ellie,” a Hansa-brand, gray elephant that has adorned the front of Sprout Kids and Beanstalk Toyland & Bookstore for the past two years.

According to publicist Taryn Smith, Beanstalk had a naming contest for the stuffed elephant two years ago and the name submitted by a local Highland Park youngster was selected.

“Highland Park families love to take pictures with Ellie at Beanstalk and Sprout Kids,” said Smith, of Ripple Public Relations.

The elephant was reported missing shortly before 3 p.m. July 24.

To provide information about Ellie’s whereabouts, call SproutKids at (847) 780-4827.
