Spirit award
Student Nominated for Prudential Spirit of Community Award Deerfield High School has selected DHS senior Elizabeth Zwart as its Local Honoree for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. Prudential has been recognizing students since 1995 for their volunteer community service.
Zwart has dedicated her time and compassion to a number of causes including: Relay for Life, as a fundraiser and participant; Good News Partner’s Food Kitchen, as a server; United Planet, as an English tutor; and her church’s Missions Council. Zwart also went on a week-long mission trip to Haiti and is currently organizing an alternative spring break mission trip to Mexico to build cisterns and run an after-school program.
Zwart is now in the running for up to $5,000 and another $5,000 grant for the charity of her choice.
DHS would also like to congratulate junior Talia Worth and sophomore Alec Lopata for being named runners-up.
