Trustee petitions
Nominating petitions for two positions on the College of Lake County board of trustees are now available. Candidates for the positions will be placed on the ballot for the April 9, 2013 election. The term of office for each position is six years. The two positions are currently held by John Lumber and Barbara Oilschlager.
The college is governed by a seven-member board of trustees, elected from among the citizens of Community College District 532, to ensure local accountability. Election packets are available in the CLC Administrative Affairs office, room A107, 19351 W. Washington Street, Grayslake.
The election filing period is Dec. 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 26 at these locations and times: Dec. 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21, 2012: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Room A107 Dec. 22, 23, 24 and 25, 2012: Office closed
Administrative Affairs, Room A107: Building Accessible at C entrance Dec. 26: 1-5 p.m., Room A107*
*The Grayslake campus is closed for the holiday break on Dec. 26. Candidates filing their nomination papers must use entrance C. Press the intercom button and announce yourself to gain entry. Nominating papers will not be accepted at the C entrance or any other part of the College of Lake County campus other than Room A107.
Viewing of Nomination Papers: Location and Office Hours:
Dec. 27 and 28: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Campus Police, Room A151; Jan. 2, 3 and 4: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Administrative Affairs, Room A107. Objections will be accepted through Jan. 4 and will follow the same location and office hours listed for viewing of nomination papers. Note: A lottery will be held on Jan. 3 for all Dec. 17 simultaneous filers at 9 a.m. in Room A107.

Gospel music performance
The College of Lake County’s 29th Annual Salute to Gospel Music program will be held on March 2. Two of this year’s most popular gospel music artists―James Fortune & FIYA and Reverend Charles Jenkins & Fellowship Chicago―will be the featured artists.
The CLC Gospel Choir, under the direction of Charles Clency, will open the program. The 2013 Harambee Award of Excellence will be presented to the Reverend Henry Lee Jordan, Jr., pastor of Greater Faith Church Baptist, Waukegan. This event will be held at 7 p.m. at the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan.
Until Dec. 17, a special buy-one, get-one-free ticket offer will be available only through the CLC Lakeshore Campus. In addition, fundraising opportunities for local groups will be offered. For information on group tickets and discounts, call (847) 543-2112.
Regular priced tickets are $19 for general public; $17 for CLC students, staff, alumni, seniors, and children 12 and under. Tickets go on sale Dec. 17 at the CLC Lakeshore Campus, by phone at the James Lumber Center Box Office (847) 543-2300 or at www.geneseetheatre.com.
Pilot school
With the demand for commercial pilots expected to take off due to a wave of retirements, the College of Lake County will launch a new, 15-week private pilot ground school that will serve as a stepping stone to aviation careers.
The non-credit course will be offered during in spring semester by Continuing Professional Development, part of the college’s Workforce and Professional Development Institute. The class begins Jan. 30. It is the first step in becoming a pilot and gaining the knowledge for a career in the aviation industry, said Jim Senft, course instructor and licensed private pilot.
An information session on the program will take place at 6 p.m. on Jan. 16 in room T33 at the Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St.
