Highland Park’s Redei heading to U.S. National Team camp

GIRLS SOCCER — Three players from the Eclipse Select Soccer Club, including Highland Park’s Zoe Redei and Lake Forest’s Ginny McGowan, have been called up to the U.S. U-15 National Team for a February camp.
Kayla McCoy of Lincolnwood also got the nod.
Redei will join the 97s/98s pool as a forward.
McGowan, a defender, has been added to the 95s/96s pool.
They will be part of a 48-player camp, which runs from Feb. 11-18 at Sunrise, Fla.
The eight-day session will be headed up U-15 National Team head coach Damon Nahas and U.S. Women’s Development Director Jill Ellis.
Redei’s group is preparing for qualification for the 2014 U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Blanchard throws TD pass in Players Classic
COLLEGE FOOTBALL — Ex-Lake Zurich quarterback Matt Blanchard had a productive performance in the Players All-Star Classic football game, which was held Saturday in Little Rock, Ark.
Blanchard, a senior at UW-Whitewater, helped the North squad to a 24-19 victory. He tossed a 17-yard TD to Buffalo’s Marcus Rivers with 31 seconds left in the half.
The game featured players who are considered as prospects for the 2012 NFL Draft. A majority of the invitees were from SEC, Big 12, ACC, and Big Ten conferences.
Blanchard led UW-Whitewater to a Division III national title this past season. As a starting QB at the Wisconsin school, he compiled an impressive 25-0 record, throwing for nearly 3.000 yards with 23 TD passes.
VHCYAA will host Steve Gregory QB Farm
YOUTH FOOTBALL — The Steve Gregory QB Farm is coming to the area.
These quarterback clinics are being sponsored by the Vernon Hills Cougars Youth Athletic Association (VHCYAA), and they will take place in May, June and July at the VHAC youth football fields.

Elite Basketball Academy starting up this spring
CLUB HOOPS — Kurt Vahle, assistant boys basketball coach at Lake Forest Academy and Director of Youth Athletics at the Lake Barrinton Field House, is starting up a new youth basketball program: Elite Basketball Academy.
The program, which will be open to players in grades 4-11, is being run out of Lake Barrington Field House and Lake Forest Academy.
Tryouts for grades 4-8 will start on Feb. 20 at Lake Barrington. Tryouts for high school boys start on March 10 at Lake Barrington.
