Forget the statement necklace. And the statement handbag. With cooler weather, it’s now about the statement coat.
And that coat should speak up, loud and clear. It’s a wardrobe staple that can make your look.
A coat should never be a second thought or late addition to your wardrobe. It’s part of your look. Whether you favor one that’s oversized, double-breasted, walking length, in leather, fur or colorful wool, make sure it complements you and your style.
We pinned down some experts on what’s great this season.
Kathy Rezny of York Furrier, an expert in the coat field, notes the best she’s found.
“The York Collection will feature gorgeous colors, bold patterns and shapely silhouettes. Rich colors this season include plum, merlot, tangerine, emerald, saffron and vivid red. Figure-flattering styles range from adorable boleros to floor-grazing evening coats with a myriad of in-between lengths. For the North Shore woman on the go, York Furrier recommends the knee-length walking coat for versatile wear.”
This season capes are in full swing, too. Pair them with skinny pants or jeans, a slim pencil skirt or dress to balance the look. You don’t want all over volume, just that great swish of cape. To complete your outfit, add a pair of long leather gloves. It’s the perfect finishing touch — and warm, too.
Lisa DeVries from the Westfield Malls sees leather. “From leather motorcycle jackets to subtle accents on a something like classic trench or pea coat, leather will be present in every fashion-forward woman’s closet this fall.”
She warns not to underestimate the coat’s power. “It’s no secret that coats are an investment that can be costly. However, not only are they necessary for surviving the harsh winter month, but they are the first thing people notice about your outfit. So why not make it your seasonal splurge?”
